Kilberry Valley Primary School Kanga 8s State Champions!Out of a record 417 schools entered in the 2004 MILO Kanga 8s Year 5/6 State Competition, Kilber ry Valley Primary School have become the Boys' Kanga 8s champions after defeating Sacred Heart PS (Yarrawonga) in the State Final. Having progressed through to the State Finals held on Monday 13th December by firstly winning the regional carnival in Cheltenham and then the Metro State Final at Carey Grammar, Kilberry Valley PS won both their Semi and Grand Final at the State Finals at Princes Park. In the Semi Final, Kilberry Valley Primary School defeated Sorrento Primary School. Kilberry Valley batted first and made a modest 101 runs without the loss of a wicket. In reply, Sorrento made 109 for the loss of 4 wickets, which resulted in 20 bonus runs to Kilberry Valley. Consequently, Kilberry Valley won 121 runs to 109 to qualify for the Grand Final. Kilberry Valley played off against Sacred Heart Primary School from Yarrawonga for the title of "State Champions". The match was a close battle, going down to the last few balls. Kilberry Valley, batting first, only managed to put a modest target on the board. With their backs against the wall, Kilberry Valley bowled a great line and length to reduce Sacred Heat's run rate dramatically whilst continuing to claim vital wickets. In the end Kilberry Valley prevailed 90 to 71 runs to claim the Cup. Kilberry Valley PS was represented by Arryn Siposs (captain), Jayden Maddox, Casey McRoberts, Ryan Guszich, Cory Phillips, Aaron Holden, Chris Cassar and Emal Franciscus. Emergencies: Darian Pawsey and Mitchell Dean. Coach: Mr Andrew Healy. And just to prove how the Milo Kanga 8s promote participation and how any school can earn the right to become State Champions, in the Girls section, Nullawarre District Primary School with an enrolment of 50 students has defeated the best school girls cricket teams in the start to claim the State Kanga 8s title. The Milo Kanga 8s competition will once again be running next season. The region holds two popular carnivals at Cheltenham and Dandenong each year. 2007/2008 South Metro Super 8s Carnival ResultsGrades 5/6 Kanga 8s Dandenong Girls - Winners: Boys - Winners: Cheltenham Girls - Boys - Winners: Years 7/8 Super 8sGirls: Boys: Years 9/10 Super 8sGirls: Winners:Eumemmering SC, Runners Up: Minaret Boys: Winners: |
